Let's start with one of our most popular quality of life improvements for UX research that you only get with TryMyUI.

Quantitating the qualitative data with the UXCrowd

Usability testing is a time-consuming activity – and when all your results are in, the process has only just begun. Five tests at 20 minutes each already amounts to 100 minutes of video, and that’s the lower limit for a reliable sample size.

If you don’t have a UX department dedicated solely to doing usability research and watching user testing videos, this kind of research can seem daunting. You know usability testing is important, but you just don’t have the time to do it at scale.

But what if you didn’t have to watch all the videos to get the same information out of them?

In recent years, the power of the crowd has been harnessed to solve problems in more and more fields. Now, we’re bringing that same power to bear on UX research, letting the crowd do the bulk of the work so that you can scale up the number of tests you run and get even more useful, timely, and accurate feedback.

How does the UXCrowd work?

When you set up your test, choose to include UXCrowd with your results. (You must run your test with a minimum of 10 users). The first 5 users to take the test will submit 2 things they liked about your website, 2 things they disliked about it, and up to 2 suggestions for improvement. Then the rest of the testers will vote on which answers they most strongly agree with. As the votes come in, the best submissions bubble to the top.

When you log back into your TryMyUI account to view your test results, you’ll see a complete, prioritized list of all of the relevant and important insights from your videos.

The ideas with the most votes are right at the top for you, so you can quickly see where people had the most issues, or what people would most like to see on your site, as well as a vote count showing how controversial each submission was, and any additional comments or insights other users had.

From there, it’s easy to build a concrete plan for improving your website’s UX and fixing usability issues. You already have a complete list of big problems, medium problems, small problems, and non-problems, plus interactions to definitely keep and interactions that need a little extra work. You may even get some new ideas for features or interactions that you had never thought of before.

That’s the power of the crowd.

UX Diagnostics

TryMyUI’s quantitative UX diagnostics are a complement to the qualitative feedback found in the test videos and written responses. Measure your product’s usability with the System Usability Scale, and map usability fluctuations along the user’s journey with the Single Ease Question.

UX diagnostics SUS

System Usability Scale (SUS): This simple, technology-agnostic metric has been around since 1986, and has become an industry standard for quantifying usability in the user experience field. SUS is a 10-item questionnaire that uses a 5-point scale ranging from “strongly agree” to “strongly disagree” to generate a global satisfaction score as well as usability and learnability sub-scores.

In addition to your flat score, you get a percentile ranking based on a database of scores from 500 other systems so you can clearly see where yours falls on a much broader scale. After all, your product doesn’t operate in a vacuum; its usability, as perceived by the user, will always be relative to competitors and industry standards.

UX diagnostics SEQ

Single Ease Question (SEQ): The SEQ is a simple but effective metric designed to measure the usability of specific tasks in a task-based usability test. Upon completing each task, the user responds to a single precisely-worded question: “Overall, how difficult or easy did you find this task?” Like SUS, the response mechanism for SEQ is a numeric scale, but the endpoints are “Very easy” and “Very difficult,” and there are 7 points on the scale.

The modern product team is collaborative

Usability research should engage everyone on the team to keep the user’s experience at the core of the design process. With the Collaborative Analysis suite, all team members can access and share research projects and work together to extract insights.

Our annotations software allows anyone to add tagged and timestamped notes to user videos so the rest of the team can easily view the main highlights of that video. Then, you can use your annotations to rapidly create a highlight reel to share key video moments, or an insights report with the templatized drag-and-drop Executive Summary generator.

Many Product Managers and UX Designers believe they don’t have time to do usability testing; but with remote usability testing tools built to expedite setup, analysis, and action, you can put the user at the center of your design process and still be in time for your deadline.
